SwanWing Productions

SwanWing Productions was formed during the cold and lonely March lockdown of 2021 when Saskia had written down as short plays all the stories she heard from friends and family and wanted actors to read them. Four women on zoom told her that they were keen to play her parts, written for women of certain ages, the actors felt that their voices should be heard. One chap was soon found to play all the men, humans, all of them. The first play, Love in the Time of Lockdown was a great success in Brighton, Edinburgh and other venues. Saskia enjoys directing her plays and loved writing Battle the new and completely different show for almost the same cast that had by then become an ensemble. Once you know your actors, you write parts for them to play, which is even more fun than writing into the void of ‘will anyone every read this’...

The many talents of this ensemble add greatly to the show – Olivia can do magic, is a fabulous puppeteer and gives us tears and Shakespeare. Martina, the youngest of the group, the cheeky one, is also able to be incredibly powerful. She analyses her text and has real insight into her characters. Claire has great acting chops jumping between the modern grandma and the medieval queen, the lonely aging women and the brave lover. And Jon, well, he can go from old wise man, via limping nastiness to the proudest king and back again in a flash. Plus, he can be a talking car and a lion when needed. All the director has to do is encourage, shape and stand back in awe when her words suddenly take flight and the most wonderful things happen live in front of your very eyes.
